Skate of the Union
In June 2007, Mikrosopht began a "human-powered" trek across the continental United States called "Skate of the Union." His goal was to make it from east coast to west coast, in a matter of months, all on a skateboard. According to the website, it was a "cross-country human-powered create-your-own adventure."[1] On September 4, 2007, Kelley called his project completed as he reached Portland, Oregon.
He kept a travelogue at his website, which was updated daily from a cell phone.
Mikrosopht bids farewell to Wikipedia and online community
Pending the imminent deletion of his Wikipedia page, Benjamin Kelley issued the following statement to friends and others via email:
to whom it may concern,
it has come to my attention that i will soon be deleted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikrosopht ...please accept this sincere apology for becoming irrelevant. i have enjoyed knowing you all, each and every one of you, whether in real or virtual life, you have touched me. though now that i'll no longer be valid data, that shouldnt mean too much to you either way. i would understand if now you were to run a search through your mail for "mikrosopht", select all, and delete me. i couldnt hold that against you, and in fact if i did, it wouldnt be of any consequence.
please dont let this day be a sad day, rather, let us celebrate this freedom of information for the generations to come, a new chapter in the internet and therefore the world at large, whence one can refresh with the most current versions of our human history, and those of the past reduced to a particle in our vast lung. i take a deep breath, and as i exhale, become reduced to corrupted data before being reformatted completely off the face of this earthen disk. perhaps you will encounter someone who looks like me someday and perhaps you will become friends due to this strange familiarity - one you just cannot quite place.
though i have many thoughts i could have shared with you before this occurrence which would have brought me much joy to expound upon in following lines, it has become unnecessary, albeit futile to write you further, and lo, i must cease.
anchors away,
benjamin raymond kelley
